Third and final round of business grants opens

Businesses employing fewer than 50 people that have not qualified for other coronavirus-related grants can now apply to Havant Borough Council for the third and final round of discretionary grants.

The criteria have again been extended to include properties with a rateable value of up to £100,000 and the rateable value limit has been removed for pubs.

Applications to the Local Authority Discretionary Grant Fund will close at midnight on Sunday 16 August.

The government has told councils that the coronavirus-related grant funding that they have been issuing will need to end on Friday 28 August, which will include: Small Business grants; Retail, Hospitality and Leisure grants; and discretionary grants. Businesses that qualify for Small Business or Retail, Hospitality and Leisure grants should confirm their details to the council by Friday 21 August to ensure that they don’t miss out.

Councillor Michael Wilson, Leader of Havant Borough Council, said:

“Many businesses have now reopened in the borough, but we know there are some that remain closed, have fewer customers, or are struggling in other ways.

“I know the grants we have provided have been a vital lifeline to those in need and I don’t want any businesses to miss out on a grant they are entitled to.

“We are likely to have to give any of the remaining grant funding back to the government if it is not claimed, so I encourage businesses to claim or apply now.”
