Million-pound funding invests in local residents and businesses

Recognising the considerable potential of the borough, Havant Borough Council has received £1 million in government funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This funding will support a wealth of projects across the borough that will invigorate the borough, support growth and provide quality of life improvements for residents and businesses alike.

The three years of funding (the majority of which will be allocated in the final two years) will support the following projects:

Investing in public spaces:

  • The refurbishment of an additional play park, supporting the borough's ongoing commitment to improving play areas across the borough, as has already been seen in Waterlooville and Emsworth
  • Public realm improvements along Hayling seafront, including improving access for those with disabilities
  • A dedicated post to specifically focus on work to support and enhance Waterlooville Town Centre

Investing in job creation and skill development:

  • As a member of the Solent Freeport, investing in the development of a skills and innovation centre to support Dunsbury Park and its anticipated business growth
  • The extension of the inspiring Youth Hub project in Leigh Park for an additional year

Investing in business support:

  • Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with additional business support
  • Supporting sectors such as construction and security with a skills accreditation scheme

Councillor Alex Rennie - Leader of Havant Borough Council - said "I'm delighted to see the investment made by the government into the borough. Supporting both local communities and businesses alike, the funding will support the council's vision as outlined in our Corporate Strategy - investing in our wellbeing, creating pride in place and supporting our future growth. This three-year funding is welcome and will work hand-in-hand with the council's ambitious vision for the borough."
