Marking the one-year anniversary since the Russian invasion of Ukraine

A minute silence will take place tomorrow (Friday February 24) at 11am to mark the one-year anniversary since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Ukrainian flag is currently flying at the Public Service Plaza as Havant Borough continues to stand with Ukraine.

In the borough, many residents have opened their homes to Ukrainian refugees since the invasion took place. Havant Borough Council has supported Ukrainian guest families and their hosts by holding regular informal drop in sessions.

These sessions are a chance to network with other families, with support and advice on offer from local organisations such as Citizens Advice, Rural Refugee Network, Community First, The Spring, Housing and Benefit team and more.

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Lead for Communities and Housing, said: “I’d like to thank all our residents who have been involved with Homes for Ukraine scheme.

“As we approach the first anniversary since Russia’s invasion began, I’d like us all to mark the moment with the nation’s one minute silence at 11am on Friday 24 February.”

The next drop in session will be taking place on Monday 20 March, at the Public Service Plaza, Civic Centre Road, PO9 2AX from 11am - 2pm. There is no need to book, just turn up on the day.
