Council supports more organisations through new discretionary rate relief scheme

More local organisations in the borough are set to receive extra financial support as Havant Borough Council launch its new discretionary Rate Relief Scheme.

The revised scheme will see more than £169k of discretionary, alongside £2.4m of mandatory, Business Rates Relief being awarded to charities and not for profit organisations, sports and other community clubs. 

The Leader of Havant Borough Council, Councillor Alex Rennie, said; "More than 50 local charities, sports and other community clubs already receive discretionary business rates relief from HBC, this new scheme will allow extra relief to be awarded, to 30 new organisations.

“These organisations are a great benefit to our borough, helping to promote healthier and more active lifestyles for our residents. Havant Borough Council recognises this and this scheme will support them through difficult financial times.”

“The scheme supports the councils Corporate Strategy priorities of Wellbeing, Pride in Place and Growth, by supporting these organisations it will help us to create a great place to live, work and enjoy with a healthier lifestyle.”  

Central Government funds 50% of all mandatory and discretionary business rates relief with Havant Borough Council funding a further 40% share.
