The borough of Havant pays its respects

Following the sad passing of Her Majesty the Queen, Havant Borough Council has been ensuring the public can readily leave their condolences whilst preparing for local Proclamation Day events which will be taking place this Sunday (11 September) in the borough.

The Mayor of Havant has already offered her condolences to the Royal Family via an official statement – however, a public book of condolence is available for residents to sign in the Public Service Plaza and/or leave tributes at the Union flag flying at half-mast in the grounds. As the nation grieves, the Public Service Plaza will be open at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday – 9am to 5pm
  • Sunday 11 September – 9am to 2.30pm

For those unable to visit the Public Service Plaza, the Royal Family will accept online submissions of condolence via their website.

On Sunday 11 September at 2pm, a regional proclamation will take place at the Public Service Plaza following the national proclamation the previous day. Following speeches from the Deputy Lord Lieutenant David Frere-Cook Esq DLand the Deputy Mayor of Havant Councillor Rosy Raines, a reading will take place to formalise the proclamation.

Councillor Alex Rennie – Leader of the Council – said “In this sad period of mourning, the council is doing its bit to help residents grieve and show their respect to Her Majesty the Queen. I know across the borough there has been a huge outpouring of sadness and grief since the announcement. Therefore, we are proud to be able to give residents the opportunity to show their respect.”
