Havant Borough Council has successfully purchased a former residential care home in Stockheath Lane, which will be converted to provide high-quality temporary accommodation for borough residents in need.

The site at 54 Stockheath Road, Havant will undergo an extensive refurbishment to create a supportive, coherent housing offer. Work will start this summer, with the expectation the site will be ready to receive its first residents later this year.

The purchase - as approved by Full Council in September 2023 - not only provides a better level of temporary accommodation than using ad-hoc alternatives, it will also reduce the cost to the public purse to deliver.

Councillor Gwen Robinson - Deputy Leader of the council and Cabinet Lead for Housing and Communities - said "The commitment of various services throughout the council to secure this property are to be applauded. It provides me tremendous satisfaction to know this site will make a real, tangible difference for the foreseeable future to a number of people who need our support the most. I look forward to seeing the site after the works are finished!"
