Bikers of the borough – we need your voices!

An opportunity to create something special for the future has arisen on Hayling Island and we need the BMX, Mountain bike, scooting and skateboarding community to help.

Havant Borough Council wants to hear your views on the potential refurbishment of the dirt jump facility located off of Station Road, Hayling, known as “Hayling Dirt Jumps.”

Currently consisting of mounds of mud and obstacles used just by bicycles, the council have been working with specialist designers to develop concept plans with a design that includes obstacles such as; berms, straights, pump bumps, doubles, triples, tabletops, step ups and angled rollers, amongst other things.

One proposal for the track is so that it can be used in sections, areas or as a continuous loop, with a selection of different surfaces available for all wheeled sports.

Keen to hear from young people, their parents, and wheeled sports enthusiasts the council is asking what else the facility should include to ensure it is suitable for all ages and riding abilities.

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Deputy Leader of the Council, Cabinet Lead for Communities and Housing, said “This area will continue to be used for sport and physical activity and we want to hear from those who are most likely to use, or want to use this facility in the future.

“The concept design for the new purpose-built provision is aimed at users of all abilities and is designed for community use, including coaching and events.  As part of the consultation, you will be able to tell us your thoughts on these designs, as well as giving suggestions as to what else this area may need.

Riders, residents and community members can provide their input by completing online survey here, which is open until Wednesday 26 July.
