Annual canvass launches in the borough

The Annual Canvass to ensure all eligible voters' details in the Borough of Havant are up-to-date, is set to begin.

All households in the borough will receive a letter detailing a list of people registered at their property. Residents are asked to read the letter carefully and take action as requested, as they may need to respond even if all the information on the letter is correct.

Changes can be made easily online, by phone, or text by using the two-part security code included in their letter.  Alternatively residents can complete and return their letter in the post, using the pre-paid envelope provided.

Each household is required by law to ensure the details within the letter are correct. Any household that does not respond may then be contacted by telephone or in person, by a member of staff employed by the council to visit the property.

Chief Executive of Havant Borough Council, Steve Jorden, said: “It is vital that all households read their letter carefully, and check their details are correct.

“It’s quick and easy to reply, with more than 96 percent of households in the borough responding last year.

“Next year will be an important year for democracy in the borough, with 36 political seats being up for election within the new ward boundaries.  We want to have the right details on the electoral register for every address in the borough, so our residents have every opportunity to vote.
