Your bin collection day will change
During the Christmas and New Year holidays household bin collections will change days.
The two main types of benefit you can receive are council tax support and housing benefit.
Council tax support is a means tested benefit (income and savings are taken into consideration) which will help you to pay your council tax. Any benefit awarded is deducted from your council tax bill.
Housing benefit is also a means tested benefit which will help you pay your rent. Any benefit awarded is paid straight into your bank account or by cheque.
Please use our online benefits calculator to see which benefits you may be entitled to before completing a claim form. The online calculator covers all benefits including Universal Credit.
You should apply straightaway if you think you are eligible for council tax support and housing benefit as it is not always possible to backdate payments.
You should also let us know immediately if your circumstances change as any overpayment must be paid back to the council.
