Young people are invited to kick start 2023 with free careers advice

Link up Youth Hub, the careers information, advice and guidance service for young people aged 16 – 24 is to kick off 2023 with a free event aimed at helping those not in employment, education or training to make a successful new start.

The event will take place on Wednesday 18 January at Front Lawn Community Hub, Sombourne Drive, Leigh Park from 12:30pm – 4:30pm.

The friendly and informal event will offer young people access to informal career advice, education opportunities, as well as top tips on health.

Free football slots will also be available for turn-up and play sessions on the artificial pitch.

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Deputy Leader of the Council, Cabinet Lead for Affordable Housing, Communities, and CIL, said, “We have made a commitment to Havant Borough to help the younger generation reach their full potential and to empower them to progress in employment.  This event will give them the information to gain the skills and qualifications that are matched with their interests to what employers need.

“We also want to support business growth and help the borough’s employers with recruitment challenges.

“There is no need to register, just turn up on the day and stay for as long as you like.”

The afternoon will offer a chance to chat with training providers and career advisers to discover local opportunities and explore support offered through the Link up Leigh Park project.  Other partners involved in the sessions include Motiv8, Adopt South, Hampshire FA, HSDC, Princes Trust, Community First and the National Careers Service, and more.

The Front Lawn Community Hub is hosting the event to showcase its facilities, as well as supporting the event, and will be offering free refreshments.
