Rain won’t stop play on Bedhampton's new all-weather cricket pitch

Bedhampton Mariners Cricket Club is set for a good innings thanks to an all-weather pitch that will help them play in the wet.

The artificial pitch is being installed this week following funding support from Havant Borough Council.

Club officials say the new pitch will provide a reliable surface allowing training and matches even when the ground is wet.

Havant Borough Council provided £5,000 towards the £8,500 scheme from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), a fund provided by housing developers to improve local amenities.

Cllr Gwen Robinson, Cabinet Lead for Affordable Housing, Communities and CIL, said: "This is a great use of the CIL as it means that more people can get involved with cricket beyond the traditional summer season.

“I hope the artificial pitch will help the club attract new members and give more people the chance to enjoy the health and social benefits of playing sport.”

The remaining funding for the pitch came from the England and Wales Cricket Board. The club would like to invite local teachers, club leaders and residents who have an interest in cricket to get in touch if they’re interested in using the artificial pitch.
