Organisations urged to sign up for new Armed Forces support group

Havant Borough Council has issued a rallying call to community groups that support members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

The council is launching a network that will bring together all the support available in the borough and provide an opportunity to build closer working relationships with other groups, as well as share ideas, good practice and information.

The council has a long-standing association with the Armed Forces and a proud record of supporting its members.

In February the council re-signed its Armed Forces Covenant, a commitment to recognising the contribution and skills of service personnel and their families and a pledge to treat them fairly.

The Ministry of Defence also honoured the council with a Silver Award as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, in recognition of the welcoming and attractive working environment the council has created for current and former servicemen.

Cllr Julie Thain-Smith, Havant Borough Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “This council has a close bond with our local Armed Forces and our new stakeholder group will be great place for all the borough’s organisations to come together and share their knowledge and skills.”
