Floodlights and new surface promise a bright future for bowls club

Havant Borough Council is bowled over to reveal that a new all-weather surface and floodlighting will begin installation this week at Hayling Island Bowls Club.

The council and the club have worked together to provide the new facilities in Station Road, with work due to begin on Thursday 8 July.

The £160,000 project, supported by £70,000 worth of Sport England Community Asset Funding, is set to take ten weeks to complete.

Money for the project was secured from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), developer contributions and the club’s own funds.

Once installed the new surface and floodlights will allow for all year-round use giving more residents greater access to the sport and safeguarding its future.

Cllr Gwen Robinson, Cabinet Lead for Housing, Communities and CIL, said: “The high-quality new surface and floodlighting will make a real difference to the club and its players, and I am delighted Havant Borough Council has been able to play its part in making this project a reality.

“Bowls is a fantastic sport suitable for all ages and now, with an all-weather surface, the club can expand its membership and attract new devotees.”
