Calling all the heroes – and their employers

Havant Borough Council continues to support the Armed Forces community, which includes Veterans and their families, by inviting local businesses to join them to promote the Armed Forces Covenant.

By coming together with local businesses, charities, and community groups the council aims to promote the Covenant and share best practices whilst building relationships locally.

Recognising the valuable contribution that members of the Armed Forces make to local communities and the workplace, it is hoped that by coming together to form a Stakeholder group will enable local support services to build closer relationships and possibly work together on future projects.

It will also give the opportunity to share new ideas, reduce duplication, and better promote activities and initiatives that will benefit the Armed Forces community and their families.

Havant Borough Council currently holds a Silver Award of the Armed Forces Covenant and supports those living in the borough through its employment.  In August 2022 the council adopted a new HR policy that offers additional support, to their staff who are Reservists, during their training and mobilisation commitments.

The council also supports Veterans through a Guaranteed Interview Scheme, implemented in 2016, and is applied to all job opportunities. The policy guarantees Veterans a job interview as long as they meet the personal specification.
