Havant Borough Council is saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Alderman Jenny Wride.
Jenny was first elected to serve on the Borough in 2006, where she served as a member of the Bedhampton ward.
During this period, she served on the staffing matters committee, the Licensing committee and the Joint Human Resources committee as well as serving on various panels, boards and working parties including the Traffic and Transport panel, the Strategy and Regeneration Board, Staffing Matters panel and the Joint Human Resources panel.
Jenny served on the Council employees Local Joint Working Party between 2007 and 2010 and again between 2012 and 2013. She also served on the Coastal Defence Panel between 2008 and 2011. In 2009 Jenny was appointed to the Cabinet and held this position until 2012.
Jenny was highly respected for her diligent service on staffing matters as well as the Council and Employees Joint Working Party. She was fully committed to serving the community and she was an inspiration to many for her ability to solve problems for her constituents.
Jenny also served on many ancillary bodies during her service as a councillor including the Bedhampton Social Hall Association, South East Employers, Havant Museum Committee, The Local Government Association Coastal Issues Special Interest Group, The Solent Forum, The Standing Conference on problems associated with the Coastline (SCOPAC) as well as the Hampshire Action group – Highways.
The Leader of Havant Borough Council, Councillor Gillian Harris, says: “I extend my condolences to Jenny's family. She has been a dedicated councillor and activist in the community and will be sadly missed".
