Recycling collections for people living in the south of the Borough will be temporarily suspended for one week from Monday 8 June to allow local waste collections to catch up.

Havant Borough Council is suspending kerb side recycling collections in Bedhampton, Brockhampton, Broadmarsh, Denvilles, Emsworth, Havant, Hayling Island, Langstone, Leigh Park, West Leigh, Warren Park and Warblington areas for one week to allow crews to focus on clearing the current backlog of domestic waste collections and return the service to schedule as quickly as possible.

The next recycling collection will take place week commencing Monday 22 June, on the normal scheduled collection day.

The council asks people living in the affected areas to:

  • Squash, flatten, and condense recyclable materials within your bins where possible
  • Present any additional recyclable side waste in either a cardboard box or a clear sack on your next scheduled collection day from week commencing 22 June

Councillor Netty Shepherd, Cabinet lead for Public Realm, said: “We’re working hard to restore a normal service for waste collections as soon as possible - a one-week suspension of recycling collections will enable us to that.

“We recognise this is inconvenient and apologise for that - it’s not at all ideal, however we’d only take this measure if it was necessary. We do thank people for showing patience whilst crews work through the backlog and return people’s waste collection service to schedule.”
