The new Mayor of Havant has been sworn in for 2026-27 following the council’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday 20 May.
Councillor Paul Tansom, borough councillor for Purbrook ward, says that he is deeply honoured to become the first citizen of the borough.
The Mayor will represent the borough at hundreds of events throughout the Mayoral year and will be supported by Mrs Dawn Tansom as Mayoress.
During the ceremony, The Mayor said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve as the 53rd Mayor of Havant.
"During my time as Mayor I would like to show case as much of the great work that is being done across the borough as I can, and recognise the wealth of dedicated volunteers that make this area such a wonderful place to live."
“I am looking forward to meeting many of our incredible and inspirational residents and organisations at the many events I will be attending in my Mayor year.”
The Mayor’s chosen charity for the year ahead are Dementia Friendly Havant Borough and Havant Youth Sail Training Scheme.
The appointment of Cllr Tansom sees the end of the Mayoral year for Councillor Munazza Faiz.
Councillor Faiz said: “I have met some wonderful people and had some incredible experiences whilst representing the Borough of Havant during the past twelve months.
“I have attended the opening of the Recovery Hub in Havant, visited my Mayoral charity 'Off the Record', unveiled the Comserv Community Kitchen in Havant, and attended the Armed Forces Flag Raising Day to name just a few.
“I would like to thank everyone who has raised money or donated to my chosen charities - Off the Record and Stop Domestic Abuse, and I would like to wish Councillor Tansom all the very best for his Mayoral year.”
Councillor Mark Coates has been appointed as Deputy Mayor.
