Havant Borough Council will soon begin work to upgrade a Hayling Island footpath, helping to improve the walking route for residents.
The upgraded footpath will improve the link between Shute Close and Legion Field, in particular the northern entrance of Mengham Junior School and the path to Hawthorne Grove.
The improvement scheme, funded through Havant Borough Council's Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), will create a wider, all-weather route that will make it easier and safer for people to travel on foot throughout the year.
As part of the scheme, the footpath surface will be widened, making it easier and more comfortable for a wider range of users, including families travelling to school by foot, scooter or bicycle. Four filter drains will also be installed beneath the path to help manage surface water and reduce waterlogging during periods of wet weather.
Work is due to begin on Monday 26 October 2026 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.
