More names are set to be added to Havant War Memorial to honour three residents of Havant borough who tragically lost their lives during the Falklands conflict.

Anthony Charles Eggington from Purbrook served as a Weapons Engineering Artificer in the Royal Navy on HMS Sheffield,  Kenneth Evans from Waterlooville served as a Corporal in 45 Commando, Royal Marines and Richard Charles Emly from Havant served as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy on HMS Sheffield, will be added to the named personnel already honoured on the memorial in West Street, Havant.

The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Paul Tansom, said "Havant Borough Council is committed to supporting Veterans and the Armed Forces community, and as such it is important that we do not forget that sacrifices continue to be made and lives are still being lost. This is not a thing just of the past but a very real part of the here and now, particularly for the friends and families of those directly impacted.

“Whilst the Falklands was 44 years ago, and it is with sadness that I note that these names are only now being added, it is important that their names are remembered alongside the others that we owe so much to."

Havant Borough Council holds the prestigious Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award for its outstanding support towards the Armed Forces community and is a dedicated signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant.

A short ceremony will be held at the Havant War Memorial at St Faith’s Church on Wednesday 22 July at 10am. Conducting the ceremony will be Canon Tom Kennar from St Faith’s Church, with contributions from the Mayor of Havant, Honorary Alderman Ms Leah Turner and the MP for Havant, Alan Mak.

Following the ceremony, refreshments will be available in the church.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the service.
