Havant Borough Council is reminding residents who applied for a postal vote on or before 30 January 2024 that they will need to reapply by 31 January 2026 to continue voting by post.

This follows national changes introduced under the Elections Act 2022, which updated the way postal votes are managed.  Postal vote arrangements can now last for a maximum of three years, so if you applied before that date, it’s time to renew.

Latest figures show 5,073 of around 11,165 affected postal voters in the borough have not yet reapplied.

Why vote by post?

If you know you won’t be able to get to your polling station on polling day, voting by post is a convenient option.  You can apply for a postal vote if you are away on holiday, your work schedule means you can’t get to the polling station, or simply because it’s easier for you.

If you do not reapply to vote by post, you will have to attend the polling station to cast your vote in person.

How to apply:

The quickest and easiest way to reapply is online through Apply for a postal vote - GOV.UK
