Live Longer Better event at Waterlooville Community Centre

A free Live Longer Better community event is being held for people aged 50 and over to encourage them to take positive steps towards a healthier, more independent future.

Taking place on Friday 11 September, from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at Waterlooville Community Centre, PO7 7AY, the event will bring together a range of local organisations and charities offering practical advice, support and activities designed to help residents stay active and healthy.

Whether you are already active and feeling well or are beginning to notice changes in your health and wellbeing, investing in your health now can have a significant impact on your quality of life over the next 10 years and beyond.

Visitors will be able to access a range of services throughout the day, including:

  • Free health checks
  • Functional Fitness MOTs
  • Free activity taster sessions
  • Travel advice
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Mental health support.

A highlight of the event is the Functional Fitness MOT, a simple health assessment that measures strength, balance and flexibility. The assessment helps adults understand how well they are maintaining the key physical abilities needed for independent living and can identify ways to reduce the risk of injury and falls.

Spaces for Functional Fitness MOTs must be booked in advance, and attendees must select a specific appointment time when booking.

The event will also feature a programme of free taster sessions, giving residents the opportunity to try new activities and find out what is available locally:

Participants attending any of the free taster sessions will receive information on how they can continue taking part after the event. Places on the taster sessions need to be booked in advance through the Get Up and Go website.

Groups are also welcome to attend. Organisations wishing to book for two or more people should contact Infogetupandgo@havant.gov.uk for assistance.

Free parking is available on site. Visitors can obtain a parking permit from the reception team at the community centre.

Councillor Antonia Harrison, Cabinet Lead for Communities, Active Wellbeing and Waterlooville Regeneration, said “I encourage anyone over the age of 50 to come along to this free event which will showcase the many ways people can improve their physical and mental wellbeing, helping them remain independent for longer and continue doing the things they enjoy.”
