Havant Borough Council has invested in drainage improvements to West Beach car park, Hayling Island with works starting Monday 1 June.

Lasting three weeks, the works will improve drainage on site, reducing issues of standing water which impact on the use of the car park.

The design was approved earlier in the year, and trials on site were used to validate the approach. The trials themselves experienced flooding, showing full works could not start earlier in the year.

Costing £23,000, the improvements are designed to be easily maintained and cleaned in this demanding coastal environment. During the works, parking in the immediate area will be limited, but the nearby Central car park (a short walk away) will be unaffected.

Councillor Netty Shepherd - Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Lead for Public Realm - said " I'm delighted to see this investment into Hayling seafront and welcome the improvements it brings. The significant drainage issues at West Beach have been especially problematic over the winter months, with this scheme we are improving both access and the usability of our wonderful beaches, all year round."

The design for the improvements was undertaken by the council's Civil Engineering and Landscape Team (CELT). For more information on the team and what they do, visit http://www.havant.gov.uk/civil-engineering-and-landscape-team-celt.
