Live Longer Better event at Waterlooville Community Centre

More than 100 residents recently attended and joined in with free activities and taster sessions at an event held by Havant Borough Council.

The one-day event formed part of Hampshire County Council’s Live Longer Better campaign and encouraged older residents to take positive steps towards a healthier, more independent future.

80 residents participated in the popular Functional Fitness MOTs; a range of simple fitness tests designed to measure strength, balance and flexibility.

The tests (including sit‑to‑stand, one‑leg balance and grip strength) helped participants understand how well they are maintaining the key physical abilities needed for independent living and identified ways to reduce the risk of injury and falls.

Councillor Antonia Harrison, Cabinet Lead for Communities, Active Wellbeing and Waterlooville Regeneration, said: "Taking care of your physical and mental health is so important, especially as you get older. Investing more in your health now can shape your next 10 years.

"I am glad many residents were able to attend the event, gain helpful guidance, and take part in fun activities. We hope to continue delivering more events across the borough to help residents stay active and independent."
