Havant Borough Council invites residents to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day during a short non-denominational service being held on Tuesday 27 January at 11am.

The event, taking place inside the Public Service Plaza (Civic Centre Road, Havant), will be led by Honorary Alderman Leah Turner and will include a reading by the Mayor of Havant, Councillor Munazza Faiz.

The theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘Bridging Generations', a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn't end with the survivors, it lives on through all of us.

Honorary Alderman Leah Turner said: “By marking Holocaust Memorial Day, we reaffirm our commitment to remembering the past and working towards ensuring such atrocities are never repeated.”

“This is a chance for us to actively listen and learn from the past, sharing stories with future generations and carrying lessons forward to foster hope for a brighter future.”

The Mayor of Havant added: “I would like to invite all residents in the borough to attend the event to remember the 12 million people who lost their lives during the Holocaust.”

“We must continue to stand up against prejudice, hatred and discrimination of any kind.”

After the service, guest speaker Mr Bryan Huberman will be in the Plaza, speaking about his late father, Alfred Huberman. This will be a moving and informative account of life before, during, and after the Holocaust.
