The Ukrainian art group has gifted Havant Borough Council a collaborative art piece as a symbol of appreciation for our support of the Ukrainian Art Project.

The Ukrainian Art Project was run by Creatful and supported by Havant Borough Council from 2023 to 2024. It offered a supportive space for Ukrainian children and adults affected by war and displacement.

Led by Ukrainian art teacher and art therapy practitioner Maryna Melnyk, the project helped participants revive their ties to tradition and heritage, process emotions, and explore personal growth. They were able to develop their creativity through fine art, traditional decorative painting, clay modelling and mixed media.

The artwork, titled ‘tree of life’ is a stretched canvas in the traditional Ukrainian folk style Petrykivka – a vivid decorative painting that carries motifs of life, hope, and resilience.

Maryna Melnyk said: “We were honoured to present our artwork as a token of our heartfelt gratitude for the council’s support of the Ukrainian Art Project. For a year and a half, this programme brought great encouragement to our community, and we will always remember it with warmth.”
