Officers from Havant Borough Council will soon be telephoning and visiting households to check whether your details are correct on the electoral register. If you’d rather not receive a visit, you can still complete the Annual Canvass forms that have been posted to you or confirm your details online.

You need to be on the register to vote in the upcoming local elections. Don’t miss your chance.

By law, every autumn the electoral registration officer must prepare a revised register of electors. This register forms the basis for voting at all elections and referenda held within the year the register remains in force.

The annual canvass ensures that Havant Borough Council can keep the electoral register up to date. It identifies any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so. so they can take part in any future elections.

The annual canvass runs between July and November to check who is eligible to register to vote. Each household will receive at least one form of canvass communication - email, letter, or form - asking for confirmation of who lives at the address.

You are legally obliged to respond and could face a fine if you do not do so. A prompt reply to any email, letter or canvass form we send can avoid you receiving reminders and personal visits.

If you are not currently registered, your name will not appear in the communications we send. If you want to register, the easiest way is online on the GOV.UK website.
