
Today, Wednesday 14 May, during the Annual meeting of Havant Borough Council, Councillor Munazza Faiz was elected as Mayor of Havant Borough for 2025/26.
The first meeting of the council's municipal year, held in the Public Service Plaza, included the election of a new Mayor for the Borough of Havant, along with a new Deputy Mayor, Councillor Paul Tansom.
The Mayoral Chain was presented by Councillor Peter Wade, past Mayor of Havant for 2024/25, who gave a speech and offered his congratulations to Cllr Faiz on her new role.
During his closing speech, Councillor Peter Wade said: “I have had a very memorable year as Mayor of Havant. It has been an incredible honour to serve the Borough of Havant for a second time and to be an ambassador for our wonderful community.
“Both my wife and I have met some delightful people and have been humbled by the work of many voluntary groups and organisations around the borough.”
During the new Mayor’s opening speech, Councillor Faiz, said 'It is a tremendous honour to accept this position of representing the borough and to serve the local community.
“My consort during my Mayoral term will be my wonderful husband, Dr Faiz Bhatti, and I know I can rely on him for his continued constant support.
“I am considering a range of fundraising events, the proceeds of which will be gifted to the Mayor’s Charity. My chosen charities for the year are Stop Domestic Abuse and Off the Record.”
Several civic engagements are already planned and include the Mayor of Test Valley’s Civic Sunday Service, the Waterlooville Music Festival and Bedhampton Summer Show.
