More than £301,000 has been raised for local good causes through the Havant Borough Community Lottery since it launched.

The lottery was set up by Havant Borough Council in April 2018 as a way to raise money for local groups. For each £1 ticket bought online, 60p goes straight back to local registered clubs and charities. There are currently 113 good causes signed up to the community lottery, reaping a welcome funding boost from their supporters.

Supporters can choose their favourite charity to raise 50p of their ticket price, while another 10p from each ticket sold goes into a community fund. Twice a year, registered good causes can apply for a grant from this fund. In the latest Community Fund round, six grants totalling £5,355 have been awarded to the following good causes:

  • Hawks Walking Football Team - £995 towards equipment, kit, pitch hire, training, advertising and fees for a Women’s Football team.
  • Y Services - £1,670 - a contribution towards staffing costs and room hire for the Wecock Youth project.
  • Langstone Pilot Gig - £502 - a contribution towards a safety and equipment upgrade project.
  • Growing Places - £729 - a contribution towards planters, seeds, compost, tools for a children’s allotment.
  • Alfie’s Arc - £729 - a contribution towards materials for a Sunday Craft Club.
  • CA Solent East - £730 - a contribution towards a Havant Digital Access project for local residents.

The weekly draw has a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, with other prizes including £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

Councillor Gillian Harris, Cabinet Lead for Regeneration & Communities, said: “Playing the Havant Borough Community Lottery is a fun way to support local good causes.

“Why not get involved and purchase a ticket for just £1 a week! By playing, not only will you be within a chance of winning prizes, but you will also make a difference to the local community.”
