Staff from various teams across Havant Borough Council have given up their spare time to volunteer for a two-hour litter pick on the shoreline of Havant.
Environmental Services came together with Planning, Economic Development and Communications to comb the waters edge along Budds Wall, Havant, PO9 1QH on Tuesday 23 September as part of Great British Beach Clean week.
Organised by The Final Straw Foundation, items collected from the area included many cans and plastic bottles along with a vehicle headlight, a metal fence and lots of general litter that may have been washed up by the tide or left behind by walkers or visitors to the area.
Councillor Grainne Rason, Cabinet lead for Climate Emergency, Environment and Water Quality, said “With 23 miles of coastline for our residents and visitors to enjoy I’d like to thank The Final Straw Foundation, along with the volunteers in making a visible difference and supporting our local environment.”
"Sadly the amount of plastic that is found in the ocean and around our waters edge is causing so much damage, and by helping to clear up what is washed up supports Havant Borough Council's "Motion for the Ocean" agreement.
