Matt Goodwin has been approved as the new Chief Executive for Havant Borough Council, following ratification at a Full Council meeting held on Wednesday 5 November.
Following a rigorous, multi-stage interview process, Matt Goodwin was formally recommended by the HR Committee for appointment to the role - subject to Full Council approval. Now this has been secured, Matt’s first day in the role will be Monday 10 November.
Matt Goodwin has served in several senior roles at Havant Borough Council since first joining in 2018. He has extensive management experience developed from working with multiple organisations including West Sussex County Council, the National Health Service and Royal Mail.
Councillor Phil Munday – Leader of Havant Borough Council – stated “I am delighted to see Matt take over the role of Chief Executive. From his time at the council to date, he has already developed a comprehensive understanding of the organisation, which means he lands in his new role ready to go. His experience, understanding and clear passion for the borough will prove invaluable as we not only deal with the day-to-day challenges of a local authority, but also those arising from local government reorganisation and increasing financial pressures.”
Outgoing Chief Executive Steve Jorden – who will be retiring on Friday 7 November – stated “After 40 years of working in Local Government, it is time to stand aside and let someone else take the helm. I’m delighted to see Matt come through the robust selection process and believe he will be an excellent Chief Executive. It has been a highlight of my career to work for Havant Borough Council, driving forward on change and working closely with members to deliver their ambitions. I am very grateful to the hard-working staff at the council who work tirelessly, often in very challenging conditions, to do the best they can for all our residents, delivering real benefits to our various communities.”
On his successful appointment to the role, Matt Goodwin said “I am very grateful for the opportunity to do this role. I am very aware of the challenges we face to support Local Government Re-organisation, ensure financial stability, deliver front line services, and look after our residents, communities and staff. However, I am also aware and re-assured that we have a phenomenally dedicated group of staff and Councillors, passionately committed to serving our borough. I look forward to working with them, our partners and the community, to deliver. I wish Steve a restful retirement, and am grateful for his efforts on behalf of the council.”
