Start the school summer holidays off with free fun and ice cream

Young people and their families can enjoy fun and challenging play times again thanks to the re-launch of the play area at Front Lawn in Leigh Park, following refurbishment.

The fun will begin from 1pm on Monday 24 July with free activities taking place on the 3g pitch including football, cricket and rounders.

Free ice cream will also be available between 2pm and 3pm before the Mayor of Havant, Councillor Rosy Raines officially opens the play area at 3pm.

Contemporary, challenging and accessible play equipment for children of all ages and abilities and new safety surfacing have been installed at the recreation ground thanks to a £113,000 project, funded by Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Deputy Leader of the Council, Cabinet Lead for Communities and Housing, said: "Our play areas and open spaces are really valued by residents in the borough, providing free, outdoor fun for families.

"We want to breathe new life into more of the borough’s play areas repairing, restoring and revitalising these spaces where they have become tired, damaged or outdated over time.

“We hope that the new play equipment at Front Lawn will provide children of varying ages and abilities with a challenging and fun play area which will be much-loved and enjoyed.”

The play area boasts new equipment incorporating basket, cradle and tango swings, a tree top tower and slide, and a spin and bounce see-saw. Floor play games include snakes and ladders, and a twist and turn game as well as various other new equipment installed as part of the borough council’s play refurbishment programme.
