Havant Borough Community Lottery awards more than £7,000 to local good causes

Havant Borough Council's community lottery has awarded six local good causes a share of funding totalling £7,475.05.

The Community Fund has been raised by supporters of the Havant Borough Community Lottery who have directly selected the fund as their good cause when purchasing tickets, donating 60 pence of every ticket purchased.

Players who have selected to support a specific local good cause have also donated 10 pence of each ticket to the Community Fund, meaning that every player of the Havant Borough Community Lottery has contributed to the pot which was up for grabs.

The twice-yearly grant, generated through ticket sales, is then allocated following  application, assessment and review by a panel of community representatives and local Councillors.  It is then awarded to help run larger projects, services or activities for the benefit of the community.

Following an application and selection process the six successful good causes include:

  • Creatful CIC – awarded £2,000 to showcase their inclusive creativity. A social enterprise that brings together mindfulness with creativity to improve wellbeing and social inclusion. It is anticipated that funds will support the purchase of equipment.
  • MHA Communities Portsmouth and Havant – awarded £1,992 for their Singing for fun in Havant event. MHA Communities reduce loneliness and isolation in the community by connecting older people with the right support, at the right time.
  • Care and Share Waterlooville – awarded £1,500 for school holiday support. They are a Help Bank in Waterlooville for food, toiletries, pet food and cleaning materials.
  • Springwood Community Centre - awarded £757.80 that will help them gain Tools and a fridge. The money will also help them put on their Summer Fair.
  • Bedhampton Bowling Club - awarded£725.25 to purchase a specially adapted wheelchair for bowling.
  • Dementia Friendly Hampshire - awarded £500 for them to purchase Dementia Activity Guides and to cover printing costs for their Dementia Travel Guides.

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Lead for Housing and Communities, said: “I would like to congratulate those successful causes, and also thank supporters of the Havant Borough Community Lottery for helping to raise these funds.

“It is great that we are able to award the money to local good causes to support the delivery of a range of projects and activities aimed at benefitting the residents of the borough.”

The Havant Borough Community Lottery is a great way for good causes to raise additional funds to support their work in the borough and I would encourage further good causes to visit the lottery website to find out how the lottery could help your cause.”
