Flying the flag for our Armed Forces

To mark this year's Armed Forces Day the Borough of Havant will be raising the Armed Forces Flag on Monday 19 June, following a short civic service.

Armed Forces Day honours the commitment and service of men and women from the RAF, British Army and Royal Navy.

Canon Tom Kennar of St Faiths Church, Havant will lead a short ceremony to thank those in the military services, both past and present and to mark the occasion of receiving the official Armed Forces Day flag. The ceremony will have musical accompaniment from a military bugler.

The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Rosy Raines, will then address representatives from our armed forces, veterans, cadets, fellow councillors and members of the public who have gathered at 10.30am, outside the Public Service Plaza.

The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Rosy Raines, said: “Events like this are a great opportunity for us all to come together, to remember and recognise the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel and veterans to keep us all safe and secure.

"I am extremely proud to be leading the civic party at this years Armed Forces flag raising event for the borough.  As a council we are passionate about supporting the defence and armed forces community.

"This support is recognised through our Armed Forces Silver ERS (Employers Recognition Scheme) award.

“I would like to extend the invitation to join us, at this ceremony, to all our residents.”

The flag will then be flown until after Armed Forces Day on Saturday 24 June.
