Zero emissions with maximum results for summer 2022 on Hayling seafront

Hayling Island has been awarded an additional £27K from Havant Borough Council’s budget to improve the seafront.

Visitors to the beach will see a dedicated team working seven days a week from 7:30am to dusk, to ensure bins are emptied, toilets are cleaned, and the beach is clean from litter.

In addition, a new electric vehicle will be introduced to assist staff in getting across the island. The environmentally friendly zero emissions electric tug and trailer will enable staff to carry full bins and litter bags to a new compactor skip that will also be introduced onto the island.

The compactor skip will allow the safe storage of rubbish during a weekend, reducing the current number of journeys required on and off the island during peak times.

Councillor Lulu Bowerman, Cabinet Lead for Environment and Commercial Contracts, said; “We have listened to the issues raised from previous years and are keen to ensure we improve the service in the most environmentally friendly way we can.”

“This injection of money will go a long way in enhancing the seafront for our residents, visitors, and local businesses. We will provide staff with equipment and resources that are necessary to ensure service quality improvements and developing a sense of ownership and pride for services on Hayling Island.”

Summer season 2022 begins in June and continues until 30 September.
