New consultation technology will help residents engage with planning

Havant Borough Council will be trialling an innovative digital technology designed to give people a greater say in shaping and regenerating their own communities.

The council has secured £83,450 from the Government to set up a state-of-the-art consultation system to make planning more open and accessible than ever before.

The digital technology will first be used as part of the ongoing work to enhance Leigh Park. If it proves successful it will be used for more public planning consultations in the future.

Cllr Alex Rennie, HBC Leader, said: “It is always a challenge to engage with a wide cross section of the community on issues such as planning and regeneration.

“But if we are going to build trust in our plans to re-shape and enhance the borough, we must ensure that everyone has the chance to have their say.

“Successfully using a state-of-the-art digital engagement platform like those proposed here will be a first step in transforming the council’s approach to engaging its communities.”

The money has come from Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ (DLUHC) and is part of the PropTech Engagement Fund.

Over £3.25 million from the Proptech Engagement Fund will be spent on 28 projects across England.
