Although the closure of the Stride Community Centre this week was not expected or announced to Havant Borough Council, dialogues are already in place to help re-open the facility at the earliest available opportunity.

Signage was installed on the Denvilles site this week confirming the closure, which opened as a new purpose-built building in April 2016 as part of the Nursery Fields development.

Following early dialogues with the leaseholder, work is already underway for the Stride Community Centre to come under Havant Borough Council control to ensure the minimum possible impact on the local community.

Councillor Alex Rennie – Leader of Havant Borough Council - said "I am obviously disappointed at the sudden closure of the Stride Community Centre and any interruption to the provision of community infrastructure in Denvilles that may arise. Rest assured - every effort is being made right now to secure the centre under new management at the earliest opportunity. In the interim the Council is planning to make arrangements to reopen the centre.”

The borough is home to 12 other community centres serving the needs of the borough. For more information, visit https://www.havant.gov.uk/community-and-living/community-development-and-centres/list-community-centres.
