A new recreational space is set to be installed at Eastoke Corner, Hayling Island that will allow all ages and abilities to enjoy.

Once complete, residents and visitors will be able to head to one of three distinct areas – suitable for children, teens and adults.

Funded by Havant Borough Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) pot – a charge the council implements on new developments – the £200,000 funding will allow the replacement of existing aging play equipment with a new fenced play area, multi-use games area and an exercise zone.

The area will also include designated disabled parking facilities, a cycle rack and buggy parking facilities to encourage users to visit on foot or by bike.

The new look Eastoke Corner will be complemented by planting and seating areas for those living and visiting the area to enjoy.

Work is set to begin towards the end of February and will take up to eight weeks to complete – in readiness for the summer.

Councillor Gwen Robinson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet lead for Housing and Communities, said: "The plans for this new play, game and exercise area on the seafront are really exciting and will offer people of all ages some new and fun experiences.

“Play areas really do contribute to the quality of life of our children and residents.

"Being active and spending time outdoors is so important for our mental and physical wellbeing.  By investing in a diverse range of amenities to allow people to do that in ways they enjoy across the borough is a priority for the council.

"I look forward to work starting on this project and seeing the facilities being used in the summer."

The new look area will include:

Inclusive and accessible swings, balancing, spinning and rocking items.  Climbing units and slides in the play area, that will be surrounded by low fencing.

A Multi-use games area marked out for football, basketball, netball and cricket.

Outdoor exercise zone that will feature a large accessible multi user calisthenics unit, adjustable hydraulic strength training units, plyometric equipment and a floor exercise area.
