Winner of Christmas card competition announced

Hundreds of school children entered the Mayor of Havant’s Christmas card competition – and the winner has been announced.

The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Elaine Shimbart, announced that Harriet Bird of Mengham Junior School won the competition.

The designs created by Livvy Coates of Mengham Junior School, Jessica Saunders of Barncroft Primary School and Frankie Cole of The Waterloo School were announced as runners-up.

As winner, Harriet received a £50 prize for her school, Mengham Junior School. In addition, Harriet and the runners-up had the opportunity to enjoy refreshments in the Parlour with the Mayor, receiving special recognition for their work. All four Christmas card designs will now be printed as the Mayor’s Christmas cards for 2017.

The competition, invited school children within Havant Borough from school years four, five and six to submit card designs with the theme of ‘The Spirit of Christmas’.

Mayor of Havant, Councillor Elaine Shimbart, said: “I am delighted that so many school children within the borough took part in this competition. It has been wonderful to see so many creative designs from talented young artists, and a pleasure to meet some very inspiring youngsters.

“I hope all our competition entrants, including the young artists I met today, continue to be creative in the future.”
