What can and cannot be recycled

Recycling from the borough goes to Veolia's Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Portsmouth. Items are sorted into the different material categories using state of the art equipment and machinery, before being baled and sent on to processers for recycling to preserve resources, generating green energy and helping all of us to be part of the circular economy.

This week is 'Recycle Week' and they’ve created this video outlining what happens to all our waste in Hampshire once it’s been picked up from your kerbside on bin day! Grab a cup of tea, and find out how recycling correctly is helping to create a cleaner, greener place to live in.

How to present your recycling

  • Empty, rinse and dry all plastic bottles, tins and cans
  • Place lids back on all bottles
  • Items should go in loose (all items separate)
  • Flatten cardboard – keep it dry (large pieces of neatly flattened cardboard can be left by the side of your recycling bin
