A former landfill site, known as Brockhampton West, has been sold by Havant Borough Council and will bring new investment and jobs into the area.
The site on Hart Farms Way - which closed in the 1990s - has previously been identified by the council's Local Plan as optimal for commercial development. With excellent transport links, the site has significant potential to further enhance the commercial offer in the Brockhampton/Broadmarsh area. This will bring new investment into the area, creating jobs in the process.
Any future development of the site will follow due planning process; the Environment Agency and Natural England will be able to contribute, managing any risk of coastal pollution from the site's past landfill use.
The sale of the site supports the first phase of Havant Borough Council's Regeneration Strategy, originally adopted in November 2018. The capital receipt raised from the sale of the site - as agreed by Cabinet in November 2020 - is earmarked to fund future investment in the borough. Key projects in this long term and visionary strategy include Havant town centre and Hayling seafront.
“The sale of this site shows the council's determination in reaching its ambitious regeneration goals.” said Councillor Michael Wilson, Leader of the council. “Raising capital to support new projects - whilst also bringing new employment opportunities to the borough - makes excellent use of a site now surplus to council needs”.
