Visitors paying for parking with their cards will have no surcharge added to their ticket price thanks to recent changes to the council’s meters.
From January 13th 2018, a law change will mean the extra charges imposed by credit and debit card companies can no longer be passed on to the customer.
Havant Borough Council has now adjusted its meters so that from December 1st 2017 it has absorbed this cost – around 22p per ticket.
Councillor Michael Wilson, Cabinet lead for Environment and Neighbourhood Services, said: “Absorbing the 22p surcharge makes parking within our pay and display car parks simpler, benefitting visitors and residents in our borough.
By taking action 6 weeks in advance of the law change, residents will receive this benefit over the Christmas period, a time when our car parks are most busy”.
