Leader meets allotment holders in online conference

Councillor Alex Rennie, Leader of Havant Borough Council, met online with allotment holders from across the borough to discuss the benefits, the practicalities and the concerns involved with managing plots.

All in attendance recognised the immense social, physical and mental benefits that come with managing an allotment plot. Councillor Rennie discussed allotment rates and asked for open, honest feedback from those present about owning an allotment.

Attendees highlighted issues and concerns that mattered to them, and during the course of the meeting, Councillor Rennie confirmed not only that he would meet with allotment owners on sites across the borough, but also explore bringing other stakeholders along with him to see how they could support allotments and their tenants.

After the event, Councillor Rennie said: "When I was younger, I spent a lot of time at my grandfather's allotment, and appreciate what special places they are to so many.

"It was wonderful to meet with allotment holders from across the borough, and to see how dedicated they are, and I want to improve the experience for them.

"I'm looking forward to seeing some of them soon on their allotments, and finding out more about their day-to-day concerns for their site."

The council has 12 allotment sites with a total of 770 plots across the borough. To find out more, visit our dedicated allotments webpage.
