Hayling is set to embark on an exciting journey to explore the future possibilities of a modern seafront, supporting the island’s excellent marine leisure offer, through engagement and partnership working.
At a meeting this week members of Havant Borough Council’s Cabinet agreed to allow engagement to start, which will help to develop the Hayling Island Seafront Strategy to create an exciting and modern seafront that supports the island’s excellent marine leisure offer.
Havant Borough Council, which is responsible for managing Hayling Island seafront has agreed to engage and consult with a range of stakeholders and businesses to agree the way forward for the island’s future.
Councillor Clare Satchwell, Cabinet Lead for Planning, Hayling Seafront Strategy and Coastal Management, said: “Hayling Island’s seafront offers a wealth of opportunities, but also faces some significant challenges.
“The island has a rich natural environment and is a popular destination for visitors, however much of the seafront is dated and requires investment. While its impressive natural coastline is one of the features that makes Hayling unique, its dynamic nature also presents its own issues.
“The ambition document will allow us to shape our aspirations for the area and will form part of the council’s broader work to deliver its ambitious Regeneration Strategy for the borough.”
The council will be working closely with a range of stakeholders and strategic partners, to engage on the vision for Haying Island seafront, with key considerations being taken on how to update ageing infrastructure and to address vulnerability of climate change.
