The pavilion in Barton’s Green, Havant, is set to be transformed after funding was secured to refurbish the facility.
The Football Foundation has awarded Havant Borough Council and Widbrook United FC a grant of £203,451 from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund to upgrade the facility, and additional funding has been made available from developer contributions collected in the borough.
The refurbishment includes six new changing rooms, each with dedicated showers and toilets; a match officials changing room; spectator toilets; a storage area; and a revamped club room and kitchen area.
Once the upgrades have been made, the facility will have a new, modernised layout to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all players, club members and spectators.
Widbrook United FC, a long-established community football club based in Havant, currently use and maintain the pavilion. The refurbishment will enable the club to offer more opportunities for boys, girls, teenagers and adults to get involved in football, and will improve the experience of residents and visitors who visit Barton’s Green and use the facility.
Construction will be carried out by HP Contracts and is due to be completed by early next year.
Councillor Leah Turner, Cabinet Lead for Communities, Development and Housing, said: “Havant Borough Council is very pleased that the Football Foundation has awarded funding for this new project. This refurbishment will be welcomed by the local residents who will use the facility in the future.”
Keith and Jacqui Turner, on behalf of Widbrook United FC, said: “Widbrook Utd FC would like to take this opportunity to thank all the above-mentioned organisations along with all our players, club members, parents and local businesses who without their continued support and ongoing fundraising this project would not be possible. As a club we cannot express how much difference the new facilities will provide, not only for our current members but for many generations to come in our community. We are very much looking forward to the future and our new amenities!"
