A brighter Christmas for local businesses with help from Havant Borough Council

Thursday, 16 December, 2021

Havant Borough Council (HBC) has allocated funding to support local Christmas lights and trees across the borough through the Welcome Back Fund.

The fund is being used to support lights and Christmas trees in:

  • Emsworth
  • Market Parade and West Street, Havant
  • Mengham, Hayling Island
  • Park Parade, Leigh Park
  • London Road, Waterlooville

The Welcome Back Fund, developed by the government as part of the Covid-19 response, comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and aims to support the high street and tourist attractions in welcoming back shoppers and visitors.

Councillor Tim Pike, HBC Cabinet Lead for Finance, Regeneration and Estates, said:

“As a council, we want to encourage residents to visit our town and village centres for their Christmas shopping. Enjoying time outside with friends and family means everyone can hopefully have a safe and happy Christmas.

“It’s great to be able to use this funding to support businesses, many of whom have had a difficult year, to make shopping areas brighter and more attractive to residents, encouraging them to shop locally.”
