Cycling at the sea front

The objective of these works is to fill in a missing link within the existing cycle network, as shown in the document below:

This will provide continuous off-road cycle use along the sea front area of Hayling Island.

The works will involve widening the footway into the carriageway on the south side of Sea Front between the junctions with Solent Drive and A3023 Beach Road, Hayling Island, and hardening part of the verge opposite Solent Drive to create a shared use footway/cycleway linking to the existing shared use route along the sea front.

The existing footway adjacent to the widened footway will be resurfaced to match the new footway.

Five new drainage gullies will be installed to replace the existing drainage gullies. The zebra crossing will be upgraded to a tiger crossing and the equipment will be upgraded.

The sea front shared cycleway works between Solent Drive and the A3023 roundabout which were being carried out by Lockhams Construction Ltd on behalf of Hampshire County Council have been suspended due to issues beyond our control.

We are now in the process of getting quotations from other contractors to complete the project as soon as possible.
