We’re making some improvements to your Council Tax and Benefits service. These improvements will allow you to set up your own online account so you can see your Council Tax and Benefit details at a time that suits you.
You will be able to:
- View your payment record
- Check any outstanding amounts
- Inform us of any changes of circumstance
- Submit your digital benefits and discounts applications and
- Opt to receive your Council Tax bills electronically.
From the end of September we will be upgrading our Revenues and Benefits computer systems to enable us to provide these new services. While we upgrade our systems, we will be working hard to minimise any impact to customers.
It may take us a little longer than usual to process documents submitted to us during the upgrade period, so if you do experience a slight delay in our response, please bear with us and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
By investing in our Council Tax and Benefits computer systems, we will be able to deliver an improved customer experience with greater flexibility to meet the demands of your busy lives.
Your questions answered
When will I be able to set up my online account?
We will be letting customers know how to access their on-line accounts in due course and we would encourage customers to make use of this new service when it is available
How do the changes affect me?
Council Tax account numbers and benefit claim numbers will be changing but please rest assured all your information will be transferred to your new number so there is no need for customers to take any action. Any notices we issue after 10th October will contain your new reference number and we would encourage customers to use their new number when communicating with us.
I pay by Direct Debit – do I need to contact my bank?
No. If you pay by Direct Debit you do not need to contact your bank as we have already been in discussions with them and they will automatically transfer your Direct Debit to your new Council Tax reference automatically. We will write to customers paying by Direct Debit to confirm when this has been done.
If I do not pay by Direct Debit what happens if I make a payment on my old account reference?
Don’t worry, we’ve thought of this. All payments made will be automatically transferred and allocated against your new account reference.
