Havant Borough Council would like to pay tribute to Honorary Alderman Gwen Blackett, who sadly passed away on Christmas Day.

Mrs Blackett represented the Purbrook Ward as a borough councillor from May 1973 to May 2018, making her the borough's longest standing member.

During her time she served on 77 committees and represented the council on 59 outside bodies.

Gwen also took up the role of Deputy Mayor prior to the year she served as the Mayor of Havant in 1981/1982.

During her civic year, Gwen raised £7,000 to benefit people with disabilities in the borough, as her chosen Mayoral charity.

Gwen was later awarded the prestigious title of Honorary Alderman in May 2018, shortly after she retired as a councillor.  To mark the occasion a tree was planted on the grounds of the Public Service Plaza.

Our thoughts are with Gwen’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday 18 January at St James’s Church Stedham, near Midhurst.
