Who is this for?
This conference is aimed at everyone connected with a local
sports club or team. If you are a committee member, coach,
volunteer or even a supportive parent then this event will help you
to develop and grow your club.
Why should I go?
If you want to find out more information about funding,
recruiting volunteers, developing your club, setting up links with
local schools and much more then this is the conference for
you!
How much?
£10 per club. Max 4 people per club. Each person must complete a
separate booking form. Includes a buffet & delegate pack.
Individual bookings also welcome.

1. Funding Opportunities in Sport
This workshop will review what funding is currently available
for new and existing
projects. The facilitator will explain the main
sources of funding available to clubs; discuss the application
process and how to develop an effective bid.
2. Club Website Design
The internet is a great way to advertise your club. If you don’t
have a website you’re missing out on a good opportunity to promote
your club activities. This workshop will explain how to get started
on setting up a website, the options available to you, where to get
support from and what you will need. No baffling technical jargon
will be used in this workshop!
3. Grow Your Sports Club
What will your sports club look like in 5 years? Many
clubs have never considered this question. It’s understandable as
you have enough things to do just to get to end of the season! This
workshop will challenge you to have a vision for future growth and
how to plan effectively to make the vision a reality. You will also
find out more about Clubmark or your relevant NGB’s accreditation
scheme
4. Recruit & Retain Volunteers
This workshop will give you lots of ideas of how to
recruit new volunteers. You will find out about the Step into Sport
programme and what’s involved in hosting a sports leader on work
experience. You will also find out new ways to motivate and reward
your
volunteers to ensure you keep the ones you already
have.
5. School to Club links
You will learn more about the Havant &
Waterlooville School Sport Partnership including what activities
they run and the right person to speak to in your local
schools.
This workshop will explain what links can be made

A: Promotion &
Marketing Learn ways in which you can promote and market
your club more effectively. You will learn how to write press
releases and understand what makes a good story and what are the
media looking for. Find out tips to communicate better with your
existing members as well as potential new members.
B: The Role of a Club
Committee If you have just joined your club committee or
have recently changed roles then this is the session for you. We
will help you to understand the different roles on a committee and
how to become more effective & productive. It’s about working
smarter not harder! Find out about the support & other training
opportunities that are available.
C: 2012
OlympicsThese Olympics are a once in a lifetime
opportunity for your club to increase your membership and recruit
new volunteers. The Olympics aims to leave a lasting legacy on
participation and volunteering in this country. Your sports club
has a role to play and an opportunity not to be missed. Be inspired
and find out how to get involved.
D: Attracting
SponsorshipTo make an effective appeal to businesses you
have to understand why they give money and what they want in
return. A company will not always be impressed with a general plea
“to put something back into the community.” You will learn how to
make a strong case for sponsorship. Also find out about
Sportsmatch, an organisation who will match eligible funding from
business.
E: Engaging People
with Disabilities in SportThis update session will help
your sports club feel more confident in supporting and encouraging
people with disabilities to take part. Learn how to overcome the
challenges and become a more inclusive sports club.
F: Havant &
WaterloovilleSchoolSport
PartnershipFind out more about the Havant &
Waterlooville School Sport Partnership including what activities
they run and the right person to speak to in your local schools. A
very helpful update session and a chance to find out more about
school sport.
Aim of Conference
This conference has been organised by the
Havant Sport & Physical Activity Alliance (
SPAA
). We have
put together an informative programme of workshops, update sessions
& exhibitor stalls specifically for sports club volunteers.
This conference will give you new ideas, helpful advice and plenty
of inspiration. Our aim for this conference is to support the
growth and development of the many excellent sport clubs &
teams we have in our Borough.

complete the Individual Booking
Form (PDF 614 KB) and return it the address shown with a
cheque for £10 payable to “Havant Borough Council” by Monday 15th
September. Spaces are limited and will be issued on a first come
first served basis.

Havant Sport & Physical Activity Alliance
(SPAA)
This group brings together all the key
providers of sport & physical activity in
Havant Borough with the aim of creating better
partnerships and working
together more effectively. Established in 2007
the
SPAA
coordinates sporting
activities in Havant Borough and distributes
funding from the Well Being
programme.
The Havant SPAA has four main objectives for
2008/09. They are:
1. To support the development of local sports
clubs.
2. To provide co-ordinated opportunities for
young people to volunteer in sport.
3. To create better school to club links.
4. To increase participation levels for
children and people of all ages.
