Fat Face National Windsurfing Festival which includes the spectacular Night Windsurf Event takes place on Hayling Island this weekend (6 and 7 September 2008) where residents of the borough can come and watch this great event for free.

Supporting the event by way of the ‘Havant Borough Council Master Blaster Series’ for amateur windsurfers, the council are committed to helping the event to become even more successful. Working with Fat Face and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) the council has also organised free windsurfing lessons for children and adults. The lessons will last over two hours and participants will receive a £10 RYA voucher and a £10 voucher for Fat Face. The Mayor of Havant will present the award to the winner of the Havant Borough Council Master Blaster series at 3pm on Sunday.

Kyle Hanna, Sports Development Officer at Havant Borough Council says, “We are delighted to support this prestigious event and we hope that local residents come down and experience the unique atmosphere and enjoy a fantastic weekend of exciting racing. In particular we are thrilled to give young people from our borough the opportunity to try this great sport for free and we hope they continue to enjoy windsurfing.”

Now in its third year the National Windsurfing Festival and Night Windsurf event, run in conjunction with the UKWA (UK Windsurfing Association), has firmly become ensconced as one of the favourites for pros and amateurs alike and previously hailed as ‘the best windsurfing event in 20 years. The highlight of the event is the Fat Face Night Windsurf final which gets started at 10pm on Saturday night.

Ian Williams, Fat Face Event Manager comments: “This is a great event aimed at the “masses” of the windsurfing world. It is great to see the weekend warrior sailors up against some of the best names in the sport.

”Our thanks extend to Havant Borough Council, the RYA and Jagermeister for their continued support. We look forward to making this event the best one yet!”

The Fat Face Night Windsurf returns to Hayling Island

The Fat Face Night Windsurf returns to Inn on the Beach on Hayling Island sea front on Saturday, 6th September as UK and International riders compete to become the Fat Face Night Windsurf Champion 2008.

This very popular event run in conjunction with UKWA (UK Windsurfing Association) is one of the favourites within the windsurfing community and has previously been hailed as ‘the best windsurfing competition in 20 years.’

Meet an Olympic Windsurfing Medalist

This is the perfect opportunity to try out the new Fat Face Rio Starboard and see if this inspires you to become the next Olympic hopeful like Fat Face Team Rider Bryony Shaw, who has just won a bronze out in Beijing. Bryony will be attending the Fat Face Night Windsurf so people will be able to meet an Olympic medallist and ask her how she got to the top!

Something for everyone

Everyone is encouraged to come and watch and support the event which is completely free. They can also take advantage of all-day food, bar, music and clinics held by some of they biggest names in the sport!

The Fat Face Night Windsurf is the sixth stop on the Night Series tour which also takes in skiing, sailing, surfing, wakeboarding, mountain biking and mountain boarding – across the UK.

The format is the same for each event; heats held throughout the day and then the finals taking place under the cover of darkness. Last year 350 competitors took to the start line vying it out for a place in the coveted finals, with pros riding alongside amateurs; often with some surprising results.

The finals!

After battling it out throughout the day in master blaster heats, the best windsurfers go through to the final as the spotlights fire up and the competition gets serious.

The first year of the Fat Face Night Windsurf brought masses of wind with little sun; last year the event had sun but very little wind. This year organisers are hoping for both to create the perfect platform for the windsurfing talent to shine!

Ian Williams, Fat Face Event Manager comments: “This is a great event aimed at the “masses” of the windsurfing world. It is great to see the weekend warrior sailors up against some of the best names in the sport.
